Choosing a Brittany as a pet

Breed History – This French breed of dog takes its name from the region of the same name in Northwest France and were first conceived in the 1800s, and first recognised as a breed in the early 1900s. Many people see the Brittany as a spaniel, although they hold many of the characteristics normally associated with setters and pointers.

Breed Description – A medium-sized dog, the Brittany is athletically built and handsome to look at. They are an intelligent looking dog, and hold an alert expression. Interestingly, their tails can be either long or short, and there is no way of telling which they will be born with. They can weigh up to 23 kg, depending upon how tall they are.

Special Needs – Health problems with Brittanys are rarer than in some other breeds of dog, and they tend to be resilient and tough against illness. Remember to regularly exercise them, as they are a high energy dog who may require several walks a day.

Owning a Brittany – A good natured dog, Brittanys are a joy to own, and due to their working background, are easy to train. They require a gentle hand, and there is no need to be strong with them as they will not respond to this form of training.

Healthy Pets are pet insurance specialists. Healthy Pets offers an excellent range of dog insurance policies for all breeds of dog, including Brittany insurance.
