Breed History – A large breed of dog originating from the Swiss Alps, the Bernese Mountain Dog were used by alpine herders to help protect their stock. Due to their sheer bulk, they were also used to pull carts and other laborious tasks. Nowadays they are considered more of a domestic pet than a working dog.
Breed Description – Big and powerful, the Bernese Mountain Dog’s strength is legendary. They can weigh up to 54 kg, and are amongst one of the largest dogs you are ever likely to encounter.
