Breed History – This playful Cuban dog has links to the Bichon tree of canine, and as a dog is becoming increasingly popular worldwide. At the time of the Cuban Revolution, many Havanese were slaughtered, but a few managed to survive the slaughter and their owners took them across to America where they began to thrive once again. Since the 1970s they have begun to boom across the globe as their appeal widens.
Breed Description – A small toy dog, the Havanese is low in size, but high in sturdiness. They weigh up to 17 pounds and stand up to 11in at the withers. Their coat comes in all sorts of different colours, and as a breed standard, practically any colour is acceptable, with the most common being white and brown.
Special Needs – As a breed of dog, the Havanese is one of the healthiest pedigrees you could own. You should take special care to brush and groom regularly, if not their coat has a tendency to mat. Heart and liver disease are common amongst examples of this breed. They can live up to 19 years old.
